MADE IN CAPE TOWN celebrates Cape Town’s people. It tells the stories of the pioneers, the mavericks, innovators, creators and makers. The people who one day had a crazy idea and the next day decided to make it work on their home turf, in Cape Town.
Is this you? Does it sound like someone you know? We want to hear from you. Tell us what excites you about the products made, systems invented and services delivered in Cape Town, from food, to engineering, textiles to scientific inventions, big industrial ideas to simple concepts that improve lives – and more. Whatever it is, if it was born in the Mother City, and it employs people in Cape Town, we want to know about it.
So you can either:
MADE IN CAPE TOWN is a project of The Craft and Design Institute (CDI), developed with seed funding from the City of Cape Town’s Enterprise and Investment Department, for the direct benefit of businesses and people living, working and playing in Cape Town, and the indirect benefit of the whole of South Africa.
Since its launch in October 2021, other entities have stepped forward to embrace the MADE IN CAPE TOWN initiative, including:
- The V&A Waterfront, and in particular the Watershed Design Lab which works in collaboration with the CDI on a Retail Readiness Living Lab (RRLL). This initiative supports creative businesses by providing training and mentorship towards retail expertise and readiness, particularly as the economy reopens post-pandemic.
- Wesgro, the official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape. Wesgro assists investors and businesses looking to branch out into the province, and assists across a variety of sectors to uncover opportunities.
